Appointed Serve at the Pleasure of Council Position
This position functions as the chief administrative officer for Dorchester County Government. Responsibilities include managing the day to day operations of County Government, ensuring that all laws and provisions of the County’s Charter are executed, attending Council meetings, administering the purchasing policies of County government, presenting a proposed capital and annual budget to the County Council, making recommendations to the County Council and other duties as assigned by the County Council.
The County Manager shall be a United States citizen and a resident of Dorchester County. If not a resident at the time of appointment will be required to become a resident of Dorchester County within six (6) months after appointment.
This position requires exceptional writing skills with the ability to present recommendations to the County Council, Department Heads and the public. This position requires both analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree, in Public or Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field.
Related administrative/management experience can be substituted on a year for year basis.
• 10 years of progressively responsible administrative managerial experience.
Prior governmental experience in local, state or regional government is preferred.
*Note: Those not meeting above college educational requirement may substitute 4 years of experience in an area of public administration, business administration, finance, economics or closely related field at a supervisory level for college education requirement.
